It's official: the gofundme funds have hit my account. Holy crap it's never been that high. I've got a lot of personal effects that I can replace and a dental/optometrist appointment to make, but I thought I'd let everyone know the specifics, especially on the Jenn Blake donation amount:
Total raised by the gofundme: $9,131 (What. Just.... what.) There were also some direct paypal donations.
Total deposited in my bank account after gofundme fees and whatnot: $8,431
which is roughly 91.7% of the total.
True to my word I wished to donate 1/2 of any extra above the $3k initial goal to Jenn Blake's cancer fund, which takes some math to figure out:
Gofundme pre cut total: $9,131
Total of past $3k goal: $6,131
Total of past $3k goal after gofundme cut: $5,622 (91.7% of the over goal funds)
One half of that, total for Jenn Blake: $2,812
I have contacted Jenn Blake and have handed over the funds via paypal
. (blanking out some personal information there for myself and the intermediary)
I also promised to give to the heifer foundation an amount totalling the stuff left if my car were found. After being found, there were some spices and shoes and a couple other random things which I estimate total to roughly $200. So here's the proof
of that donation. I encourage anyone considering a charitable donation consider for themselves donating to the Heifer project or Jenn Blake's fundme.
So what about the rest of the money, that given to me? Well, I already mentioned the dental/optometrist stuff, but I'd also like to list some of the effects I'll be replacing. There's vending goods, art books, arting tablets, clothing, more clothing, luggage, cooking supplies, etc. You never really know how much stuff you have till you have to move, then even still after losing it all it still strikes me that "oh, I have a thing for this... wait... nevermind". Little things like an ethernet cable, stamps, or a pair of pliers. I am looking forward to visiting an art store and replacing a lot of the little things.
As for the sentimental things... well... I got my first round of birthday cards since and I'll be storing them like I stored those before, but I imagine that I will be a bit more possessive of what's left sentimentally for a while.
What extra there is after that has given me most is time. Time to improve my art, time to focus on new things, on improvement. This is the most valuable thing I could have asked for. Again: thank you all very much. This community is constantly reminding me of its humanity.
